Sigma Alimentos has acquired 51% of the shares of Caroli Foods Group, a company that produces and markets cold cuts and prepared foods in Romania. Sigma already owned 49% of the shares via its subsidiary Campofrío Food Group and, with this transaction, it completes the acquisition of all Caroli’s shares.
Caroli has been successfully supplying various market segments for over 23 years, through local well-known brands such as Caroli, Sissi and Primo. The company operates a plant in the city of Pitesti, Romania, where it employs more than 1.200 collaborators. In 2016, Caroli generated sales of €88 million euros.
In this regard, Mario Páez, CEO of Sigma, stated: “This acquisition will enable us to continue with our growth strategy in Europe and, specifically, in a highly attractive region such as Eastern Europe.”
In turn, Ricardo Doehner, CEO of the Campofrío Food Group, commented: “We are determined to combine the best of Sigma and Campofrío Food Group with the human talent of Caroli, to continue satisfying the preferences of Romanian consumers.”
